HR Management Adjunct Instructor and Consultant

Mary Ellen Connolly is currently working as an HR Management Adjunct Instructor and Consultant at the Great Plains Technology Center. In this role, she has developed and instructed the six-course “HR 101 Series” and “HR for an Hour Series”, to include The Vacancy to Hire Process, Interviewing Best Practices, Progressive Discipline, Retention and Termination, Policies and Procedures, Creating a Great Place to Work, Employment Laws for Managers; and  How to: Handle ADA Accommodation Requests, FLMA Leave Requests, Employee Complaint Investigations, Discrimination-Free Workplace, Build Trust at Work, Manage Performance Daily, Avoid Lawsuits, Write/Revise Policies and Procedures. She has also acted as a consultant for GPTC Clients, with requests to set up an HR Department and instruct Harassment-Free Workplace, Prevention of Sexual Harassment, Communication and Trust Building, and Getting Along in the Workplace. Clients include The City of Lawton, Marie Detty Youth and Family Services, All America Bank, Fort Sill Federal Credit Union, and the YMCA.

She achieved her Master of Science degree in Human Resources Management from the University of Maryland University College and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California-Berkeley, which includes one year Education Abroad Program at the Universite de Bordeaux, Bordeaux, France. She had held her Professional Human Resources Certification (PHR) since 2003. She was recently awarded the 2016 “Excellence in Human Resource Management Award” from the OKHR State Council, affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

Her professional career includes 40+ years serving in various business roles within sales, administration, logistics, management, and human resources. Mary Ellen began her working career in Sales as a Fuller Brush salesperson going door to door and progressed to a Sales Representative and Regional Trainer for Johnson and Johnson Health Care Division in New Jersey and the Bronx. She also worked as a Realtor. Her favorite jobs have been as a manager, working as a Store Manager at the Fort Sill, KY Thrift Shop; Workforce Development Counselor in Pennsylvania; Office Manager at the Education Center in Baumholder, Germany; and over the last 15 years, as an HR Manager, Director, and Vice President for three federal contractors. As an Executive Team HR Leader for federal contractors, Mary Ellen planned, managed, and executed human capital initiatives, projects, activities, and strategic goals as one organization grew from $5 million to $50+ million enterprise, and throughout company acquisitions integrating change management skills to ensure employee retention; integration of HR benefits, policies, and company culture. Her passion is helping others to succeed, collaborate, and build trust within working environments and teams.
