Shawn works with instructional and support staff and the statewide resources of the career and technology center network to coordinate and provide customized training programs and services to business and industry. Shawn Johnson instructs and helps to facilitate OSHA and other safety courses for corporate training clients. He also works with the safety team to ensure customer satisfaction and compliance.
Prior to becoming Business and Industry Services Coordinator, he worked as an Organizational Safety/Soft Skills Instructor for the Corporate Training Department at Great Plains Technology Center where he instructed and helped facilitate OSHA and other safety courses for corporate training clients. Before joining the Corporate Training Department, he worked as a Safety/Environmental Compliance Manager for the Universal Trailer Company in El Reno, Oklahoma where he developed and maintained all HSE and Workers compensation programs, performed training and audits across the organization to ensure OSHA and EPA compliance, managed workers compensation, and conducted reviews for the organization. He previously worked as a Safety Consultant II for the Oklahoma Department of Labor in Oklahoma City, and as a Safety Consultant for Richard’s Manufacturing in Duncan, Oklahoma.
Shawn has extensive experience in safety, health, environmental development, implementation, and management. He has conducted safety and health consultations or training at over 100 Oklahoma businesses and trained over 6,000 students. His past achievements include reducing operating costs by acquiring different equipment, products, and implementing new procedures, creating checklists that helped reduce the incident rate and improved the quality of products, reducing hazardous air pollutants to comply with EPA rules and regulations, maintaining budgets below annual forecast, and recovering over one million in workers compensation premiums.
Shawn received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Safety from the University of Central Oklahoma University in 1996. He also has completed training in: OSHA 1910.120 40 Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response, 322A Applied Welding Principles, 201A Hazardous Materials , 204A Machinery and Machine Guarding, 222A Respiratory Protection, 311 Fall Arrest Systems, Respiratory Training Instructor, and Confined Space Entry.
